Nineteenth album from aussie mystics. After a quarter century and countless changes, The Church have emerged as Sydney’s answer to XTC and Radiohead. Uninvited isn’t inclined to give away it’s secrets too easily, and even the ostensibly ‘poppy’ tracks (“Easy”, “Untoward”) feature strange harmonies or sonic sleights of hand. The pieces are underpinned by the cunning guitar tapestries of Marty Willson-Piper and Peter Koppes, ranging from chiming chords to suspended keyboard-like tones, never better than on the majestically broody “Overview” or the back-to-Ummagumma vibe of “Never Before” – Adam Sweeting
